Getting fit is a journey, and it’s always better when you’re not alone. Whether you’re looking to shed some pounds, build muscle, or simply adopt a healthier lifestyle, having a companion along for the ride can make all the difference. That’s where partner personal training comes in. It’s an approach where you and a friend or significant other work out together under the guidance of a professional trainer. One excellent venue that offers this kind of specialized training is Westcoast SCI Personal Training Port Coquitlam. Here are some compelling benefits of opting for partner personal training.
Accountability and Consistency
With individual training, it’s easier to cancel a session when you’re not in the mood. However, when you know someone else is counting on you to show up, you’re more likely to honour your commitment. The accountability factor in partner personal training can keep you consistent, leading to better long-term results.
Financial Benefits
Personal trainers offer invaluable expertise, but they can be a financial investment. When you split the cost with a partner, it becomes a more economical option. Westcoast SCI’s partner packages will literally split the cost of a 1-on-1 session between two people, making it that are more affordable than individual sessions, without compromising the quality of training you receive.
Social Support and Motivation
While a professional trainer can offer technical guidance and motivational encouragement, nothing compares to the emotional support from someone who knows you well. Having a partner can bring an extra layer of enthusiasm and fun to your sessions, making the grueling workouts feel less like a chore. You can celebrate each other’s victories, however small, and provide that nudge to keep going when the going gets tough.
Variety and Creativity
Partner personal training sessions are often more dynamic because the trainer can incorporate exercises that utilize teamwork. From partnered push-ups to tandem squats, the creative possibilities are endless. This variety can keep you engaged and interested, making it more likely that you’ll stick to your fitness regimen in the long run.
Competitive Edge
A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, and it can actually propel you to perform better. When you train with a partner, you’re likely to push yourself a little harder to keep up or excel. This heightened intensity can lead to faster and more sustainable results.
Customized Training for Both
Partner personal training does not mean a one-size-fits-all approach. Trainers, like those at Westcoast SCI Personal Training Port Coquitlam, are skilled at customizing workouts that cater to the individual fitness levels and goals of both partners. So, while you’re working out together, each of you is still getting the targeted, personalized training that you need.
More Fun, Less Stress
Last but not least, exercising with someone else simply makes the experience more enjoyable. The shared laughs, struggles, and triumphs can turn a workout session into a memorable experience. This boost in enjoyment can be a strong motivator, making you more likely to make exercise a lifelong habit.
From increased accountability and motivation to financial savings and personalized training, the benefits of partner personal training are manifold. Whether you’re a fitness novice or a seasoned athlete, consider taking this route for a more engaging, effective, and enjoyable workout experience. For those in the Port Coquitlam area, Westcoast SCI Personal Training Port Coquitlam is an excellent option to explore this training format. Is it worth hiring a personal trainer?
Just as with other industries, the quality of personal trainers can vary greatly. As I’m sure many people can attest, there are fantastic electricians who truly care about their customers and their profession. However, there are also people who claim to be electricians who try to take advantage of people and provide poor quality service.
While standard exercises may be effective for some, it is the different responses to muscle, bone and joint mobility that matters. People have different bodies. While leg lunges may be effective for others, these may be too simple, difficult or even painful for you. Also, some people may not be able to tolerate these types of exercises because of a previous injury, musculoskeletal condition or other medical and physical reason. A certified personal trainer in Port Coquitlam, BC can make sure that you do these fitness challenges at a safe pace that you can tolerate.
Equally important with the fitness classes for client success is evaluation too. As your body becomes used to different fitness levels, a personal trainer can adjust your exercise and online training programs.
When doing your research into personal trainers, there are a few key things to consider:
- Does the company have good reviews? Reputation is something that takes years to build, but can be destroyed if a few clients have bad experiences.
- Does the personal trainer promise immediate results? If yes, that’s a tell tale sign that they are trying to “pull the wool over your eyes”. Long lasting results take years to accomplish and if someone tells you there’s a magic pill, they’re not being truthful.
- Are you able to ask questions prior to booking your first appointment, or is someone trying to convince you to book in a hurry to take advantage of a limited time offer? Buyer beware!
Do you offer online personal training?
Absolutely! Given the current circumstances with COVID-19, many people will prefer to exercise from the comfort of their own home. We offer secure, safe and effective sessions over our virtual platform. One of the best aspects of online personal training is that we get to see the actual environment that you’ll be exercising and can develop a fitness program specifically catered to your workout space.
How many training sessions will I need with a personal trainer/how long does it take to get results?
This will really depend on your existing fitness level as well as your health and wellness goals. If you’ve never exercised in your life, have a medical condition that makes it more difficult to move, the chances of requiring more sessions to develop your fitness plan and allowing you to feel comfortable may take longer than a person who is quite athletic and requires help with a specific goal.
Remember that an online personal trainer will design a health and fitness level program and evaluate your progress. For a committed person who wants to achieve their goals more quickly or burn more body fat, three times a week or more is recommended by top personal trainers in Port Coquitlam for a healthy lifestyle.
If you live in Canada, you may want to make your personal training in Port Coquitlam more frequent if you are targeting a sizeable weight loss.
Typically, for someone new to working out, we recommend that you have several sessions in quick succession to make sure that you understand how to move (exercise) safely and what to be aware of (pain, incorrect form/lifting techniques, poor body mechanics, etc). The reason for this is that if you start to develop poor habits from the beginning, it’s very hard to undo. We want to make sure we teach you a solid foundation to build on from the very beginning.
Our goal is to get you comfortable to workout on your own so that you have the education and confidence to exercise at your current fitness level safely. The amount of time this takes will vary from individual to individual and you may want to make your personal training sessions more frequent if you are targeting sizable weight loss or strength gain.
What should I expect from my first personal training session?
Your first session will involve a subjective history which includes asking you questions, understanding your medical history and setting specific goals. After that, your kinesiologist aka personal trainer, will guide you through a functional screening process. In other words, your trainer will ask you to perform a series of movements to assess your overall mobility and strength. They will be able to see if there are areas where you lack flexibility which could impede your ability to perform certain movements or exercises. They will also want to help you address these areas. Allowing you to achieve a full range of motion of your joints will not only allow you to exercise safely and efficiently, it will also feel good to gain mobility in your body so that you can enjoy your full human potential.
After this is complete, they discuss your plan of care. Together, you will determine how you can safely reach your goals in a realistic manner. This will determine how many sessions will be required in order to achieve your desired outcomes. Finally, your kinesiologist/personal trainer will teach you and guide you through some exercises to get you started on your fitness program. They will provide corrections to your form and make sure you understand the techniques required to safely perform the exercises.
Lastly, you’ll likely have some “homework” to do before your next session which will be emailed to you (typically, this will be your exercise program including written descriptions, photos and videos of your home exercise program).
If you’d like to find out more information about what how our Registered Kinesiologists can help you reach your personal fitness goals, please contact us to register for a FREE, no obligation 30 min consultation with the actual kinesiologist you’d be working with to ask questions and find the answers you’re looking for. This can also be done virtually for your convenience and comfort.
Your answers on online personal training forms will be discussed in your first personal training sessions in Port Coquitlam, BC. Personal trainers will study how best to motivate you too. They will note your routine, food and drink intake, sleep patterns, and stress-inducing activities. Most certified personal trainers will incorporate fitness goals into their trainees’ activities to achieve their goals faster.
How long does it take to see results from personal training?
You can expect results in four to six weeks. You will feel a noticeable difference in size or shape, strength, and endurance. When you can’t tolerate running 5 yards before, now you’ll be able to tolerate more.
For those who have been working out on various fitness programs before, whether online personal training sessions or at the gym, expect a longer time frame to see and feel results. Your body has been used to strength training, after all. However, a personal trainer will be able to modify your exercise regime into a favorable one where you’ll see remarkable results faster.
Should you do cardio or weights first?
This really depends on your fitness goals and will vary widely. However, more often than not, a combination of both cardiovascular, mobility (flexibility), and strength training will be required. The ratio of each may also change as you get stronger, more flexible and improve your overall fitness level.
When should you not work out?
You can skip working out on a day when you’re sleep-deprived, have a fever, and have done a strenuous activity for the first time, like sprinting your first 20 yards.
Another reason why you should skip your fitness classes schedule or weight loss workout plan is when you’re very stressed and sore.
When you’re very stressed, the body is demanding more oxygen. As a result, your heart beats faster. For some, exercise may not help at all as it puts extra effort on the heart. As a result, some people become more stressed. There’s also the reason why you’ve been stressed, and squeezing in the extra hours while you’re in the office for corporate fitness classes on an already busy day will only make the situation worse. Remember that rest is an essential part of fitness success stories and workout plans.
If your body is under the weather, rest first. You may be running an infection like a fever, and most of these illnesses demand oxygen. Adding in exercise will only increase the oxygen demand and will make you tired.
What age group benefits the most from using a personal trainer?
The answer to this question is again, dependent on the individual. Children can use a personal trainer to develop motor control and coordination. Teenagers and young adults often enjoy the benefits of learning how to lift weights safely and age appropriately. Older adults can benefit from a personal trainer to improve their cardiovascular fitness, overall strength and balance to avoid falls.
Also, more active people have a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, stroke, cancer, depression, osteoporosis, and dementia. Also, in a study involving postmenopausal women, there is a strong link between physical activity and bone mineral density. Women who exercise more in their younger years have a lower incidence of osteoporosis after their menopause.
When a person moves, energy is spent, and more oxygen is required. When exercise is done properly, the heart and blood flow throughout the organs of the body is improved. As a result, the delivery of nutrients and disease-fighting cells reach target areas more quickly.
How long does it take to transform your body?
It would take at least 6 weeks to see body changes after you start working out. There are also some factors like age and gender, which affects your workout routine. People who are older may not be as flexible. Also, women have a different type of muscle fiber than men. Because of this, men may have a greater power output, but women have faster recovery rates.
However, as alluded to in a previous question, it’s like learning a new language. If you only practice for 10 minutes once a month, it’s going to take an extremely long time to learn anything. But, if you diligently practice for 20 minutes a day for the same amount of time (1 month), then you’ll see dramatic improvement quite quickly.
Another factor is a person’s diet. If you want to see better results and save money on fitness studio sessions, Westcoast SCI Port Coquitlam personal trainers can point you in the right direction and recommend good fitness and nutrition coaching plans that will help you gain muscles or lose weight and body fat.
Another thing to consider is age, other medical conditions or injury and your overall body composition. Furthermore, fitness and nutrition are correlated, meaning that you can exercise until you’re blue in the face, but if your diet is not under control, your ability to lose weight will be severely reduced. Vice versa, if you’re not getting enough nutrients and strength training to build bulk, your body has no building blocks in which to build muscle.
Do personal trainers require any certification?
In order to carry liability insurance, one needs to be a certified personal trainer. Unfortunately, the certification process varies greatly and there are some certifications that are much better than others.
Here at Westcoast SCI, our personal trainers are also Registered Kinesiologists who have at least a bachelor’s degree in addition to several other certifications. In addition our team of kinesiologists work closely with our Registered Physiotherapists and are constantly participating in our in-house training and education programs. We really value education and are always trying to stay on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest research, innovation and evidence based scientific practices.
What’s the difference between a personal trainer and a kinesiologist?
While most people have heard of a personal trainer, many have never heard of a kinesiologist. Kinesiology is the study of human movement. To become a Registered Kinesiologist in Vancouver, British Columbia, a 4 year bachelor’s degree from a university is required. Kinesiologists tend to have more of a focus on the science of rehabilitation. In other words, a kinesiologist possesses the skills required to work with people who are injured. In addition, a registered kinesiologist in Vancouver, British Columbia is required to register with the BC Association of Kinesiologists and be in good standing with them in order to practice and carry insurance so that they can legally work with clients.
Personal trainers do require a certain level of courses and workshops to obtain their certification. However, there are no regulating bodies that oversee personal trainers in Vancouver. This is not to say that personal trainers are less than kinesiologists. There are many good personal trainers in Vancouver and many hold multiple certifications that give them the skills to work with a multitude of clients ranging from those with injuries, medical conditions, and sport specific athletes.
Both kinesiologists and personal trainers should provide their clients with detailed goal setting, teaching methods, exercise skills and extensive exercise programming. Just like with any profession, there are really good personal trainers and kinesiologists and unfortunately there are some not so good ones out there.
