Personal Training with a Registered Kinesiologist

There are many considerations when it comes to making a decision about signing up for personal training in Vancouver.

The most important thing to think about is: How much is your health worth?
When you grab a coffee and pay $5, you don’t think twice, but when you fork out a few hundred dollars to get in shape, most people find it difficult to justify spending money on themselves.

The thing with personal training is that it really boils down to making a lifestyle choice. Starting off working with a personal trainer is really just the tip of the iceberg. Unless you plan to workout with a personal trainer for the rest of your life, you should first consider: are you going to make a commitment to your health for the long term?

When you sign up with a personal trainer, in our case at Westcoast SCI Physiotherapy you’ll be working with a registered kinesiologist, you’re really paying for their knowledge and expertise. They are able to provide you with the exercise prescription, education and rationale for choosing the exercises. However, it really comes down to you. Can you “do your homework” (in other words: will you actually exercise on your own outside of your sessions with your personal trainer?). Unless you have unlimited financial resources, the likelihood of working everyday with a personal trainer is slim and extremely costly.

If you’re not ready to fully commit to making exercise a part of your life, then expecting a personal trainer to do it for you is pretty unrealistic. No matter how good the program they create for you and how much they educate (nag) you, if you’re not ready to adopt exercise as part of your daily routine, then chances are you’ll stop exercising shortly after your personal training sessions run out.

How much does a personal trainer in Vancouver cost?

There is a large range in prices for a personal trainer in Vancouver. Depending on the location, you can pay anywhere from $60 – $180 per session. At Westcoast SCI, we feel that personal training with a registered kinesiologist should be something that many people should be able to access and afford. Therefore, we charge $95 for a 60 minute one-on-one session with a registered kinesiologist or a 10 pack for $850.
