How many years have you been a physiotherapist? How many of those have been with Westcoast SCI?
I've been a physiotherapist for 5 years since 2012, and I've been a physio here at Westcoast SCI for 1 year.
Do you have an area of specialization or interest?
Persistent pain management and chronic pain management specifically, lower back pain. I am also interested in shoulder pain too.
I choose physiotherapy because of the practical aspect of being a physio. As a physiotherapist, you biuild a lot of report with patients as you spend a lot of time with them. You treat not only their physical issues but their psychosocial issues as well. You learn more as you progress your career and you always continue to pursue professional development, which I find very interesting because I always like to learn.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new patient?
I would advise them to exercise regularly, have an active lifestyle, sleep well, eat well, and look after themselves. Doing things they like to do and exercising in ways they like to.
